Apple Pie Baked In Apples

Hello everyone.  Happy fall to you all!

Here is an easy and fun dessert that not only looks amazing, but will have your guests asking for more.  It has everything that you love about apple pie - the warm apple filing with gooey cinnamon flavor and crunch of a pie crust - all baked inside an apple.

Pre-cooked apple filling is poured into a hollowed apple and topped with an easy lattice pie crust.  Then baked for 20-25 minutes.  So easy and cute!


  1. Large Granny Smith or Gala Apples
  2. Additional apples for filling (4)
  3. 3 tablespoons butter
  4. 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  5. 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla
  7. package (14.1 oz) Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crust (use just 1 of the 2 crusts in the box)
  8. 1 egg, lightly beaten

    Preheat oven to 400°F.

    Slice the top off each of your apples and scoop out the inside of the apple. I used a knife and a spoon to hollow out the apple.

    Cut apples into cubes and place in saute pan. Add butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.  Cook for 8 to 10 minutes. Then add vanilla.

    Unroll one pie crust and cut it into fourths; one for each apple. Then cut each quarter into 1/4-inch strips.

    Lay strips of the dough on top of the apple. Then take one new strip at a time and alternate weaving it over and under the pie strips already in place. Repeat until the top of the apple has been covered. Trim excess pie crust around the edges with a knife. You can use any left over dough to make decorative leaves.  Lightly brush beaten egg over the top of each crust.

    Place apples in a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes or until crust if golden brown. Remove from baking dish and enjoy.

Of course you can serve these warm with a scoop of ice cream.  I hope you enjoy.
