Fall Home Tour 2016

Hello friends... I hope you are all having a great week.  And now that fall is officially here, let me begin by wishing everyone a happy and warm autumn.

Today I am sharing a little tour of our homes fall décor.   Let me begin by welcoming you to our home.  I am so happy to have you here.  I hope that you will find a bit of inspiration here.

Fall is by far, one of my favorite seasons.   Crimson leaves of all shades come together to create a majestic brown and gold foliage like no other.  The cool crisp mornings, pumpkin spice lattes and endless amount of fall activities are all magical to me.   And of course, my favorite part is decorating our home for the autumn season.

I do like decorating our home in the traditional autumn colors. There is a certain warmth and comfort that these earthy tones bring to a home.  Truth is, I think our little pooch Max loves these colors too. The minute I began decorating our foyer, he parked himself near the door and napped for hours and is his go to spot since.

Here is Max greeting you at our door.

I begin by placing a burlap runner on top of our radiator, then I layered a burnt orange runner for a pop of color.  A vintage crate holds a few velvet pumpkins, rustic signs and candles add visual impact.

This was the perfect place to display my favorite pattern by Spode.

This is our recently refreshed dining room.  My husband and I worked in this room for a month.  My poor husband has been so helpful...  Thank goodness that he always supports me and my numerous ideas for decorating our home.  I am so fortunate.

A few pieces have been painted to give them a second life but I think our over sized hutch will be replaced eventually.

Here, I kept things simple.  A few seasonal floral arrangements, pillows and throws transition the room to autumn. It is one of my favorites rooms in our home now.  The previous decor was grand and a bit too formal. Now, the room feels easy, unpretentious and inviting.

This small sideboard was originally dark.  We decided to paint the piece a warm wheat-mustard tone. I love how it turned out.  What a difference color makes.  Lamps give it scale while a basket filled with a seasonal accessories give this sideboard visual interest.

In our breakfast room, the colors are also warm which makes it easy to decorate for fall.

A dramatic fall floral arrangement gives this table interest while a simple but seasonal table setting eases in to fall.

Autumn has the beauty of earth's majestic colors, foliage and flora.  Remember that decorating for the season can be as simple as adding a few pumpkins and candles.  Bring in natural elements from your
own garden.  No need to be perfect or to go over budget.  Regardless of how you decide to decorate your home, it is about making your home feel cozy and warm for family and friends.

May you all have a happy and blessed autumn season.

Janet

  17. Janet, HELLO! I just happened to take a peek at my blog (where it's rare to get a lot of comments these days) and I was so happy to see you there! You came all the way from Instaland! Thank you. My goodness, you are such a great stylist. You know what to put into a photograph and how to get a cozy feel to your vignettes. Your home is warm and evokes a good old-fashioned Americana feel to autumn, that which I've loved all my life. I hope you enjoy a cozy time with family around beautiful meals and happy times! Thank you so much for leaving me a comment and we are thrilled to be in the magazine. I would LOVE to continue my photography and bring my skills up to a professional level, but I need a studio; my dear house is limited in lighting and space, but it's been a great start.

Thank you once again for this tour. And Max is DARLING!!! What a great greeter at your fabulous cottage door! Anita

9 Steps for Hosting The Ultimate Spring Birthday Tea Party

Hi friends - I've missed you all.  Things are rapidly changing for us all.  Many of us are working from home these days, stopped gathering with family and weekend outings are basically trips to the supermarket to restock.  It's the least that we can do to help stop the spreading of this horrific virus that is changing the world as we know it.  That being said, I am so glad that I got to spend time with family and friends two weeks ago when we all came together for the celebration of my Goddaughter Daniella's birthday.  We had a blast and the memories made are ones that will live in my heart forever.     My sincerest thank you to everyone that helped me put this beautiful event together.  Especially my cousin, Jennifer of Having Fun Craft s, for making all the gorgeous place cards and backdrops.  They were a beautiful addition to the overall decor.  A big thank you and hug to my niece Ericka for flying in from Florida to help me put it all together and to the amazi

Wood Box Rustic Floral Arrangement Tutorial

So what do you do with an old wooden bit box found at a flea market???  Well, the answer is very simple for those of us that love all things vintage and worn...  We display flowers of course.   And luckily, I scored big on my trip to my local grocery store yesterday. Our flower vendor had the most spectacular roses in stock.  I couldn't believe how gorgeous they were.  Two tone roses in the most delicate soft shades of pink and fuchsia.  I knew these roses were meant for me!!!  I grab two bunches and practically ran home to snap a few shots of them and arrange them to showcase their timeless beauty. So today, I am sharing a tutorial on how I made this rustic centerpiece...  The best part of this tutorial, is that there are no fancy materials needed.  The only items required are the flowers, a few glass tumblers, water and floral shears or scissors.  And in less than 10 minutes, you will have a spectacular centerpiece that will rival any one that you may purchase at a Floris

A Country Christmas Tablescape

Until this Christmas, I had no idea that I was going to be having a little obsession with vintage trucks. Specifically, red pickup trucks.  Me, the girl that loves to decorate with delicate flowers and romantic fabrics.  Hard to believe but it is true!!!  And decorating with vintage cars is seems to be having a moment..  They are everywhere!! So today, I am happy to share one of my most pinned and shared tablescapes.  It is my Country/Farm house themed Christmas table which showcases my latest find. You guess it!  A red pickup truck.  It was just too adorable to pass up.  I didn't know what use it would have in my decor when I first brought it home but it quickly became the inspiration for all of our Christmas decorating the last two holiday seasons. Such a fun piece to own with a great vintage vibe too.   My whimsical table begins with a distressed wood charger in antique white, topped with simple white plates and Pier 1 Imports Glad Tidings Porcelain Salad plates.  I al
