Old Wooden Spools

Hello friends.  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I am sure we all celebrated with a little too much food during the holiday.   But who wouldn't with all the delicious and heart warming fall vegetables flowing at local farm stands and markets.  Or the savory turkeys and hams that were the true stars of our Thanksgiving tables.  And who can pass on a holiday dessert.  Not me that's for sure.

And now, I am slowly working my way into Christmas. I do love the holidays after all, it is a fun and exciting time of the year.  But it can also a be stressful time of the year with all the Christmas decorating, holiday gatherings and the madness of the holiday shopping season.  Truth is, I do love all the craziness and rush that the holidays bring because I know that our home will be filled with family and friends during the holiday season.  Especially the new grandbabies that will be celebrating their first Christmas this year.  It will be a joyous and blssed time for sure.

And when I need a little break from it all,  I do turn to my collected treasures.  Don't ask me why, but spending time going through my beloved collections automatically calms me down.  It is very comforting and creativity comes easy.  Admiring a pretty teacup or a lovely piece of vintage linen gives me instant tranquility.  I don't know if that makes any sense but it does help me get focused. The mind gets going and the ideas just flow.

A few weeks ago, I came across these lovely vintage inspired wooden spools wrapped with lace and fabric typically used for finishing dainty and feminine clothing.  All reminiscent of times gone by.   For me, it is their nostalgic appeal and worn patina that I love most.

So when I thought of an old world Christmas, these charming wooden spools came to mind. Wanting to have just a whisper of Christmas, I created my vignette using creamy white vintage linens, Spode china and a simple ornament.  Soft and warm, it is exactly what I had envision

Thank you for taking the time to stop by my page today.  It makes me truly happy.

Wishing you a lovely week,

Happy Thanksgiving To You All

Hello to you all.  It's me again.  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We were a small group this year but we all had a great time together.  The food was delightful and the best part about Thanksgiving is the leftovers.  So many things to do with these delicious leftovers right??

But I am working on slow motion today. Still recovering from all the craziness of the holiday. In spite of dragging myself today, cleaning is all done.  Dishes, glassware and fall decorations have been put away and I am now ready to move on to Christmas.  But before I move on to my my favorite holiday, I wanted to show you my Thanksgiving table.

This year, I wanted to incorporate more natural elements to our table.  So my center featured plenty of  vegetables and flowers from the fall harvest.  Willow plate chargers and napkin rings gave each place setting a natural feel.  Royal Stafford Turkey plates paired with a larger cream plate completed the look.   It turned out just beautiful.  Relaxed and perfect to enjoy the savory feast ahead.

Each year I try to  mix it up a bit and do something different.  This one is one of my favorites.

Well friends, I hope you enjoyed your visit today!!!  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Thanksgiving Table Inspiration

Hello friends.  Can you believe Thanksgiving is almost here??  For me, it is a very exciting time of the year. Time to gather with family and friends.  Spending time with our loved ones is the best gift of all.

It is also the start of the holiday season and time to start planning all the Christmas decorations and to be thankful for all our blessings.  And although there were some very challenging and trying moments this year, there is still so much to be thankful for.

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to set the table beginning with our Thanksgiving table which I love to decorate with falls warm color palette.  For this table, I selected Spode's Delamere pattern with a lovely shade of brown.  To keep it a bit more casual, I added a few natural accents mixed with informal seasonal pieces.

A small white pumpkin with a pretty fall spray anchors each place setting.

I love this shade of burnt orange with this pretty brown transferware,

Brown flatware complements this festive place setting.

I hope that table provides a bit of inspiration for your own Thanksgiving table this year.  I also wish that you all are surrounded by your loved ones this Thanksgiving holiday and may you all be blessed with the laughter, warmth and love of the season.

An Autumn Afternoon Gathering

Happy Saturday to you all.  I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  It's been a typical Saturday around here.  Laundry, cleaning and grocery shopping.  A normal weekend for many of us.

Fall has certainly made its entrance around these parts.  It is a festival of colors everywhere.  Crisp, cool breezes in the air and pretty leaves adorn the many landscapes.  An irresistible color palette that inspires me to create this lovely table for an afternoon gathering with very special friends.

My china pattern of choice for this autumn inspired tea was Royal Doulton's Gleneagles.  A magnificent explosion of delicate flowers that pick up the all the rich hues of fall.

Oneida silver plate flatware adds an elegant touch to the table setting,

A perfect autumn palette delights our table for a lovely fall afternoon brunch.

Classic Royal Doulton Gleneagles china.

Such a sweet and feminine teacup.

Delicious mini pumpkin cakes are the sweet treats of choice for this gathering.

This recipe is a must.  It is so light and tasty.  Perfect to enjoy with a warm cup of tea or coffee.  I found the recipe on Pinterest and the original source was Kitchen Meets Girl.  Wonderful cake.

Thank you for visiting me today.  Please give this yummie recipe a try.  The link for the full recipe is listed below.

Wishing you a beautiful autumn.

The Versatile Accent Chair

Accent chairs are absolutely an essential part of any room.  They can be used to spice up a room or add texture and personality to a space.  Chairs can also be used to fill up those areas of a room that look a bit plain.

The options are endless my friends.  My favorite way to use an accent chair is to add a splash of bold color and visual interest in a room.

A perfect example is the room pictured below.  There is nothing color-shy about this room.  It is simply stunning.  Chic and modern with contemporary pieces that pull the room together without being overly done.  The pink chairs add that unexpected splash of color that create instant drama in the room.

In addition to adding appeal to a room, accent chairs should also be comfortable and inviting. Club Club chairs with an ottoman are a great choice.  The arrangement below is perfect for a guest room or just for curling up with a book or cup of  tea.

The Classic Wingback Chair

Wing chairs are elegant and add a touch of formality to any room.  Their generous size of a wingback chair makes it the perfect partner for as large sofa and it can give the room a sense of balance and scale.  They can be very neutral and basic as well as bold for adding that pop of color to your decor. Also pay attention to the details in the room.  They all have a supporting role in completing the design of a room.

A classic wingback chair upholstered in a bright fuchsia color cleverly arranged in a modern setting. Beautiful, practical and functional.

Classic style in a perfect neutral tone works in any room.

The Classic French Chair

Everything in this room seems to work together to create an elegant and stunning look.

Exquisite old-world charm that give a room timeless elegance.

A floral fabric can give the room an authentic French Country feel.

A magnificent example of classic time-worn comfortable French Country style.

The curves on this chair make it feminine and very elegant.

A tribute to the glamorous "Great Gatsby" era.

The Regal Bergere Chair

A comfortable and inviting seating room.  Great for gathering and conversation.

I guess by now you can tell that I have a bit of a chair crush with these beauties.  If I could dream up the perfect romantic chair it would be the one pictured below.  A true elegant and feminine accent chair which dresses one of lovely vintage style bedrooms in our home.

Which one is your favorite style?  What look appeals to you?  The perfect accent chair is out there waiting to be incorporated into a fabulous design.  Whether it is found at a local thrift shop, flea market or garage sale, an accent chair can be a focal point in a room.

I always value my sources of inspiration.  Sometimes they can come from other bloggers, magazines, design books, and other times they can come from a great design website such as "One Kings Lane" I love their recent blog post highlighting accent chairs they love.  "Accent Chairs 101".   You can visit their blog for more great decorating ideas and inspiration.  I have attached their link below.

Here is also a link to One Kings Lane page for a peek at all of their great accent chair styles.
