Sweet Lilacs

The sweet scent of lilacs always signals early spring.  And when we smell a lilac we are always transported to a different time and place.  A garden, our grandmother's perfume or a favorite childhood place.  Such sweet memories.  And they are in full bloom in my garden.  It is such a pleasure to sit in my garden these days to smell their wonderful fragrance and to enjoy looking at the beautiful flowered shrubs.

What a lovely gift to get the chance to cut a few to enjoy in our homes.  I love to keep a small vase near my bed to smell them in the morning.  It is such a great way to begin a morning.   They simply evoke beauty.

Spring is such a wonderful time of the year.  It is when the earth wakes up and begins giving us all the best that mother nature has to offer.  What is in bloom in your gardens???

Here are a few photos I took of my lovely lilacs this morning.

Have a blessed week.

Thank you for visiting me.

Fondly,

Janet

  8. Beautiful photography, and beautiful objects to photograph! The handle on the pitcher and the cream soup bowl are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

PS I love lilacs too, and just this morning saw some outside our fitness center window...THAT was inspirational too! It means spring really must be coming (though it was in the low 40s this morning!).

  9. Just beautiful! For the first time ever, we have had success with a lilac. Last year the husband planted some and this year, they bloomed. Usually they die. I think the success might actually be to a colder and longer winter than usual -- do you live in a cold climate?

  10. My dear Janet, I love these flowers so much, they're so evocative and suggestive, my favourites in the garden in these days of Spring !
You have to know that many years ago, when we first came and see the house we're now living in, the first thing I noticed in its big garden was just the old Lilac bush, I'm really passionate with these lovely scented flowers ... and in your photographs they're even more fascinating !
I wish you a wonderful rest of the week my sweet friend xox

  14. Your lilacs are gorgeous. Lilacs have always had a somewhat mystical quality for me, since I live in the Deep South and they are not noted for doing well here. However, this past weekend, I was at someone's house whose lilac bush was in full, glorious bloom -- right here in Georgia! I'm going to have to plant one for myself...

  15. Oh, I do love lilacs, Janet, but we won't see any until June which is also when our roses will begin to bloom. Spring is really late this year and hope that doesn't mean the blooms will be too. Your pictures are gorgeous and so is the teacup! Thank you for joining me for tea.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  27. I am one of those rare people who can't stand the smell of lilacs, but I do think they are beautiful! I have them in the yard, but never bring them in the house. Your photos are so beautiful, I wish I could tolerate the smell so I could bring them in! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week! ~Deborah

  37. Lilacs are the best! My most favorite flower is Lily of the Valley, it comes up before the Lilacs, but both have such incredible smells. I love lilacs for their beautiful color. As always I love your dishware, photo and creativity in displaying your tablescapes. Thanks for sharing at Sunday's best, hope to see your creativeness at Sunday's Best tomorrow.

  38. I love lilacs - they remind me of my late mother's talcum powder. She passed away back in 1965 but I am transported back in time when I smell my three lilac bushes. Interestingly, although my husband and I love the smell of lilacs, my son can not stand the scent. To him it smells like garbage - literally. Something, apparently, that he shares with one of your other commenters. Thankful that, to me, the scent is wonderful.
