Guest Room Reveal

Hello friends..  I hope you are all having a pleasant week.  I have been a very busy bee.  We have been working on lots of little projects around the house, spring cleaning, painting, refreshing some of the rooms in the house.  It will be 7 years since be bought or lovely home this April 7.  What an achievement for us.  It has been a labor of love.  We have made done so much work to our home to make it our own.  And when I say we, I mean my husband.  Thank God that he is handy because I am always coming up with ideas for new projects.  But we are so happy here.  It is home, my heart and my soul.
And now that spring is right around the corner, we can add yard work which is plenty around here.  Pruning, seeding, cleaning all get added to the list of things to do.
Here is one of the projects that my husband and I have been working on.  It is one of our guest rooms.  This room was very dark before with red floral drapes.  Very Victorian.  I can't even picture it now.  The room is so light and cozy  now.  Such a romantic space.  The first thing we did was change the paint color to a bright and welcoming color.  We used Antique White from Martha Stewart.  The subtle tones of creamy white make the color prevail rather than overwhelm.  I just love it.

The old carpet was removed and we decided to go with an accent rug for the room.  I like the wood floor to show.  It makes the room feel cozy.  I am still working on the window treatments for the room.  I began with sheer panels to keep them light and simple.   I have extra fabric which matches the comforter set so now all I have to do is sew a simple valance for each window to complete the look.  I just have to get my sweet sister-in-law Lilly to help me since I don't sew much.  An afternoon project for her since she is extremely great an sewing.

The furniture in the room also received a transformation.  We refinished all the pieces and gave it new life.  What an amazing transformation.  All the furniture pieces in this room were all very dark.. Could you believe that I was afraid to paint them??  I am so glad we did.  We were able to create an entire new look with the existing furniture.

Now you can really appreciate all the detail of the headboard and foot board of this gorgeous piece.

A few little touches to dress up the room and to add my signature style.  I used lavender as my accent color to tie everything together.  I am loving lavender so much lately.  I find it so refreshing.  I still have to add some art work to the walls but I think the room is coming together nicely.

New fireplace in the middle of the room and mirror for a classic and romantic touch.

The chair was part of the old decor in the room.  It will be replaced eventually but for now it works just fine.

.

I also added mercury glass lamps to each of the night stands.

New ceiling medallion and silver chandelier because I just have to have sparkle.

I hope you enjoy my tour of our guest room.  Thank you for visiting today.

  22. Hi Janet. I'm popping over from Sandi's Home. Your guest room is really pretty. So calming and peaceful. I love that you painted the furniture sometimes all that wood can be overpowering. It sure adds to the quietness of the room. I have just (almost) finished a guest room that I love, it is Victorian but with lighter colors than usual Victorian. I wanted to paint the furniture also but got side tracked so didn't get to it. I'm still debating as I'm not a lover of painting. I'd love for you to stop by the Cottage and we can compare notes on what a guest likes..Happy Wednesday..Judy

    1. Hi Judy. How nice of you to stop by. Thank you for the lovely words. You right in saying that the wood is sometimes overpowering and in this case it was. The lighter colors have made a huge impact in the room. It is so much brighter and cozy. I would love to stop by for a visit to see your guest room too.

  44. I really love the way you've done up the décor in the guest rooms! At the rate that you're going, you can probably make a killing off salvaging some old pieces from storage units and reselling them or using them to help decorate other people's rooms! You'd be excellent as an interior design specialist!
